About Texans for School Choice

Mission Statement

Texans for School Choice believe an effective education system is vital for a successful, competitive society. We believe that the single most important manifestation of social justice is universal access to a quality education for all children. A quality education is every child's right and every parent's responsibility.

Accordingly, we recognize that in order for children to achieve their full potential, we must enable and empower parents to be fully engaged in the education of their children. Such empowerment can only be achieved by giving parents access to all available education options.

Purpose

The purpose of the Texans for School Choice coalition is to provide a way for parents, students, schools, teachers, communities of faith, employers, policy makers, civic activists, and community based organizations to come together in the pursuit of one goal: To improve the education of Texas children by empowering families through school choice.

Founding Principles

Texans for School Choice recognize that parents are best suited to determine what is best for their children. No politician or government institution can replace a loving parent. Therefore, the Texas Legislature should grant parents the fundamental right to choose the school that best meets the needs of their children.

Education and knowledge are tools that equip all Texans to achieve the American dream and contribute to their communities and society, regardless of race, religious belief or income. As such, state education policy should not erect or endorse barriers that restrict the ability of parents to provide their children with the best education possible.

Texans for School Choice believe the best way to break the poverty cycle is to provide children with a solid education, and the best way to guarantee a solid education is through parental involvement. School choice allows ALL parents to be active participants in their child's education.

Parents are not paying property taxes to educate institutions; they are paying taxes to educate children. Therefore, the education funding should follow the child, not the institution.

Any expenditure of tax dollars should be attached to accountability measures to ensure effective and efficient use of tax funds.
